Picture a nation without drunk driving, MADD’s Campaign to Eliminate Drunk Driving is a bold initiative with the ambitious, but attainable, goal of eliminate drunk driving once and for all.    Every year nearly 13,000 people are killed by drunk drivers with an illegal alcohol level of .08 BAC or above. This represents more than 1,000 families every month that must live with the tragic consequences of drunk driving.   Although alcohol – related fatalities have declined by more than 40 percent since MADD was founded in 1980, progress has stalled in recent years.

That’s why MADD has launched a major new offensive in the war against drunk driving through its campaign to Eliminate Drunk Driving by intensifying efforts, creating alliances and developing innovative solutions, together we can take the fight against drunk driving to a new unprecedented level stated NOBLE’s Oklahoma Chapter president Chief Virgil L. Green Sr, who is also the National representative for Mothers Against Drunk Driving ( MADD ) to the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE) Chief Green, also holds the position of MADD’s State Executive Director for the state of Oklahoma.

Green stated through MADD’s Campaign to Eliminate Drunk driving, the possibility of eradicating a primary public health treat that has plagued the United States for a hundred years is now within reach.   In just one year, the Campaign to Eliminate Drunk Driving has made significant strides: four states now have comprehensive ignition interlock laws and additional 30 are likely to consider such legislation in the 2008 legislative sessions.   The alcohol ignition interlock, a breath test device linked to a vehicle’s ignition system, has proven to be up to 90 percent effective in preventing repeat drunk driving offenses when installed on an offender’s vehicle.

Chief Green, stated there are four key parts to MADD’s Campaign, Intensive high-visibility law enforcement crackdowns such as Sobriety checkpoints, and Saturation patrols. Advanced Technology, Ignition Interlocks, and public support.   MADD is asking our four thousand plus NOBLE members to make the pledge to Eliminate Drunk Driving by going to www.madd.org/ pledge to eliminate drunk driving, Green stated by each NOBLE member going to MADD’s website and filling out the quick pledge information form you will join our campaign to Eliminate Drunk Driving. We are also asking you to pass this information along to your Departments and supervisors and ask officers to make the pledge, with the support of NOBLE we can Eliminate Drunk Driving.
